Although an airsoft gun may exactly replicate the image of a real gun externally it was not considered as a firearm because of the fact that it does not require fire and gun powder to explode and shoot projectiles out of it’s barrel. Even though an airsoft gun is just a toy it still causes harm which requires each player to use gears and gadgets for safety similar to what military call a battle gear.

AEG’s are not like water guns where it is still allowed to be fired anywhere outdoors. Airsoft participants are only allowed to play wargames in a designated battlefield where it cannot cause any harm to civilians and bystanders. Even though an AEG is not real, as an airsoft enthusiast we should take responsibility of our actions when using such things and carry them wisely. Like they said treat them as though they are real.
