The Great Internet Broadband Scam
It seems that the Internet service providers consider us mere mortals as a group of people they can seemingly lie to without any fear of recrimination. Perhaps “lie” is too hard a word and mis-direct would be a trurer explaination, but for me I’ll stick with lie.
Quite a few months ago I was contacted by the proverbial customer care department (always available when they want something) to make sure I was happy with my service which on the whole I am. But then comes the real reason for the call, the oh by the way did you know sales pitch.
Well, happy to go with the flow I was amazed to find out that I could get upto 8 mb broadband for less money if I switched to a new package brilliant, problem was of course there was a cap to the bandwith per month (which the customer care operator neglected to tell me until asked), and then there was the fact that although upto 8mb was offered due to restrictions at my local exchange I can only get a max of 2 if I was lucky, again the operator did on questioning admit they couldn’t guarantee actually 8mb but could definately say upto? Well go figure.
And then today I get a letter telling me that my account has been upgraded to 1MB (i get 1.6) and my monthly limit has been extended to 30gb (I am on an uncapped rate).
Quite simply where do they get off trying to take us for a ride or treating us as totally stupid?
No doubt I’ll just have to waste hours of my day trying to contact the faceless customer care team to sort this out.
The moral of this post, don’t beleive everything your customer care/sales person tells you. Read the small print first if you are ever even offered teh opportunity.
