Transfer files from XP to Vista

January 31, 2009 · Filed Under News · Comment

Vista is now dominating the market.  I for one really do like Vista and in my professional opinion it is a better operating system over XP.Vista is not all that different from XP. After all it's built on the same core os as XP the features have been enhanced and ultimately Vista is a better system.

Now that you bought your new slick looking Vista system you are all ready to go.  Except for the part of all your files being stuck on your old XP system. The purpose of this guide is to talk about different methods of moving your old data from XP over to Vista.  While this sounds like a daunting task many of these tasks are not all that hard.  If you are NOT computer literate then you may want to consider purchasing some data transfer software to help out in this process. Check out this XP to Vista file  transfer page.  You should also consider purchasing a data transfer cable as well.  This just makes the whole job even easier.  We posted a 10 dollar off coupon we got from contacting Laplink as well so you should consider applying the savings to cover the cost of the data transfer cable.

As always there are free ways of doing a data transfer.  You can always use the built in data transfer wizard in XP and in Vista.  This is a good way to transfer over all the user settings and your personal files.  This method does not transfer over software programs and the only program out there that does this is the one mentioned in our link above.  However if you want to see how the built in Windows tool works we suggest visiting this How to transfer files site.  It’s easy to navigate and they walk you through the whole process.  In our experience this free transfer program is not bad but it’s does come with it’s own set of headaches.

Something to consider is just starting over with a fresh user account and just manually coping over the data needed. Normally is what I do is network both systems together or just hookup a USB hard driver and manually copy over the My Documents folder and favorites.  To find were your documents are stored hit the Windows Start button and browse to My Computer > C: > Documents and Settings > Your USER ACCOUNT.  From there you will see the My Documents folder as well as your IE favorite’s folder and your Desktop folder.  This is the main place were your data is stored and for most people the only thing they want to transfer over.  Just copy and paste it to the new computer over the network or copy it over to the USB hard drive and then copy it to your new Vista System.

Only you can decide what method is best for you.you can always pay someone to do the XP to Vista data transfer for you.  This is cheaper then you may think.  We like to recommend out this computer repair company.  It’s an online computer repair company that can transfer your person files over to your new computer and help set you all up.  All you have to do is visit the link above and start chatting with them.  They have you download a quick screen sharing tool that will allow them onto your computer for that session only and they will copy your files and then you allow them access to the other system and they place the files were they need to go and you are all set.  Very easy and this company is located in California but they can help you any were in the world.

Your Back-up Program Too Onerous?

If you have lost computer data previously due to perhaps computer crash, then you must have tried finding a backup system online. Probably, you have come across systems that depend on tapes or external hard drives which, to keep it safe from theft or natural calamities, you must store somewhere else and assure yourself everything in it will be recoverable.Whatever it is, the system can only assure complete safety and recoverability if someone actually takes care of it.

Saying Goodbye to an Old Backup System

Enter the automated online backup, essentially the ideal solution for those who want to back their data up and not have to ever worry about it again unless one of the aforementioned problems happens and they need access to older files. These are exemplified by Carbonite and Mozy, which stores data at professionally managed remote servers as backup.

Getting Cozy With Mozy

Mozy is arguably the best solution at present as it not only incorporates a backup utility, but it also features a powerful scheduler capable of setting backups for convenient times as well as allowing users to limit the amount of network bandwidth utilized during hours you want to use the Internet. Thus, your use of the Internet is not slowed just to backup your files.

Likewise, Mozy can duplicate in back up the data being made so exiting the program to back up the information is unnecessary.People who are familiar with older systems can attest that backing up data spends so much time. For a complete look at how their service performs take a look at this Mozy review, it provides a detailed overview of the features, performance, and cost of using Mozy Backup online.

See also how Mozy can handle your files automatically once you have initially backed up your files and have set the subsequent back up schedules.Mozy’s second best feature is its capability to keep several versions of back up files to replace infected or corrupted primary ones.

ASUS Eee PC 904HA

These small laptops are a value especially for students or small business on a budget.  They list for as little as $350.  The pluses for this model are that it has a 160GB hard drive and three USB ports.  On the negative side it is slightly weightier and does not have a DVD drive.

HP Mini (AKA 2113)

These small laptops have been specifically created for the traveling population. It has an aluminum shell, titanium chasis, HP3D sever service hard drive and a moisture-resistant keyboard.  This is the smallest of the three and is only outmatched in thinness by the Mac Air. Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-S1001X

The Toshiba is probably one of the sturdiest and most durable small laptops. This computer is priced in the neighborhood of $800.  It has the ability to charge USB devices like an iPod even while shut down but plugged into an outlet.

Apple MacBook MB061LL/B

Apple has always been the top name in computers and it is the same when it comes to small laptops.  This MacBook lists for a little under $1000 making it the priciest in this group.  It is also bigger and weighs more.  A major concern for most laptop travelers is being able to get online.  This laptop is able to find a Wi-Fi connection literally anywhere.

A Short History On Mac Notebooks

January 27, 2009 · Filed Under Laptop Accessories · Comment

Apple Inc. is an American Multinational Corporation that opened its gates on April 1, 1976, and with this market presence Apple actually blazed the trail in the PC industry. Apple Inc. produces large collections of personal computers with all the adjacent accessories and supporting software, and it also offers various networking services for a variety of users. Besides the PCs and PC related products Apple also designs portable digital music players, and other electronic gear like iPods and GPS devices. One important part of their work remains the remarkably revolutionary Macintosh, also known as the Mac. Apple’s products also include the famous line of Mac desktops and notebooks with a higher emphasis on the latter.

Online stores, company’s retail stores as well as well as plenty of affiliate and dealers advertise and promote Mac notebooks worldwide. There are different types of Mac notebooks about which you can find information on the Internet on the company’s websites. The technical descriptions of every item allow easy identification of the performance rate and enable the visitor to reach a decision a  lot sooner. Thus, you are provided with information regarding the types of Mac notebooks available on the market, their prices and technical data. Moreover, the Apple sites also offer professional and amateurish reviews, with the others reflecting the market feedback or the customer product reception.

From the several Mac notebooks models, let us mention the Macbook, the Macbook pro, iBook, iBook G3, iBook G4, and Powerbook G4. The Macbook is the latest of consumer Mac notebooks; it was developed and marketed by Apple Computers and afterwards introduced in series production in May 2006. For the Mac notebooks series, the Macbook replaces the iBook G4 series and also the last of the PowerBook series, the PowerBook G4. The Macbook is based on the Intel Core Duo processor technology, and it comes available in some distinct configurations. They include 1.83 GHz, and the 2.0 GHz both with a white polycarbonate enclosure, and the 2.0 GHz with a matte black case. Each of the three Mac notebooks mentioned above come with an in-built iSight webcam plus a magnetic latch mechanism.

An important design specificity of Mac notebooks, and obvious particularly in their MacBook Pro, is that the mercury normally used in CCFL back-lights and the arsenic in the glass of traditional LCD displays, have been eliminated. Apple engineers turned to LED technology and arsenic-free glass for the design of the Mac notebooks. In fact, Apple specialists have done even more than just eliminating these toxic elements from the components of their Mac books. They were able to develop the same non-toxic technology in the rest of the new Mac book line, the Apple LED Cinema Display, as well as in all their iPods and iPhone 3G models.
